Customizing patterns to achieve a great fit is one of the joys of home sewing, but can seem challenging.  However, alterations don't need to be daunting -  Donna will help you learn to utilize them to make your pattern fit your body perfectly.  Professional construction practices will be mastered so that you will be confident and excited to begin projects on your own after completing this in-depth class.

Please note - while there is no material fee for this class, each student must bring their choice of a suggested blouse pattern (Kwik Sew 2952, McCalls 2094 or 5138, or Vogue 2634), a sewing machine and sewing supplies.  The supply list will be emailed to you when you register for the class.

FOUR HARNESS WEAVING

Instructor: Pam Murphy

Instructional Fee:  $90

Materials Fee:  $15

This is a basic class designed to introduce you to the world of multi-harness weaving on a loom or update your skills if you have not woven in a long time. If you are a member of the Bisbee Fiber Arts Guild, taking this class will allow new weavers access to the guild looms for their personal projects.

Class participants will have the opportunity to complete both a sampler of weaving patterns and a personal project. Skills acquired will include how to plan and wind a warp, warping the loom to be ready for weaving, how to choose a weaving pattern and structure for projects, finishing techniques and calculating yardage needed for projects.

November 5, 6 and 7, 2010

9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. each day

CLOTHING DESIGN FOR HANDWEAVERS

Instructor: Trish Lange

Instructional Fee:  $160

Material Fee: TBA

The workshop will begin by considering sources of inspiration and capsulizing trends in clothing styles. There will be in-depth discussions and problem-solving exercises to help the student understand HOW to design her own patterns from scratch. Emphasis will be placed on the creation of designs appropriate for the student’s particular figure type, life-style, and specific talents, as well as designing for her own loom width.

Color and fiber will be investigated and how to choose them to most effectively achieve the desired concept. Multi-colored and multi-fibered warps and wefts, draping qualities, finishing techniques, getting the most out of one warp, keeping records, sources of supply will all be explored plus much more! Trish shares her own patterns augmented by a mini fashion show of 25-30 garments.

Students will leave the workshop with a handful of personalized original patterns and muslins, loom layouts, fiber and color choices, and the knowledge that she can execute them in a wonderful fabric designed to maximize her style and talent.

This workshop is a wonderful start to creating your own wardrobe and wouldn’t it be great if for the next fiber conference you go to, you could wear your own designed and hand woven clothes. We are sure that Trish would come back to Arizona and help us put on the loom designs that we have created in this workshop. This is only a start to open up a new world of weaving for you and you will love Trish’s enthusiasm and creativity.

You must go to her web site: www.weave.com . We cannot say enough great things about Trish and her creations. You need to see pictures!

Please note - Sign up soon as class size is limited. 50% deposit must accompany your sign up and the balance is due October 5th.
