Gretchen's felted bead rolling demo was a big hit with the kids.
Carlos wove this scarf during the fair, all by himself. He did great! Left to right: Kelly, Theresa, and Elva are getting some hands-on fiber arts time.

Day One - Plant Dyes

Ginger, our faithful mascot for the day. Sue, Taera, and Betty at the mordant pot (Joan in foreground).
It started out windy and didn't improve. Cosmos dye pot.
Kota Hibiscus
Snakeweed Chamisa
Straining the dye baths
Spinning the dyed fibers to remove as much dye as possible. The yarn after spinning.
The top row is all the yarn that Karl dyed. The entire array of dyed yarns and cotton strips.
We had to take two pictures to get the entire class, because there was no one around who wasn't in the class and could take our group picture (and I didn't have my tripod).

Day Two - Indigo

The "bloom" on the indigo pot. When items are first removed from the pot they're sort of yellow and turn green quickly, then blue.
Jill's shirt before ... ... and after.
A small sample of the items we dyed. The silk scarves dried quickly and were then moved indoors.

Warping front to back: sleying the reed. Warping front to back wasn't originally meant to be included in the lesson, but Tom had the opportunity to show us this and we were all happy to take advantage.
Tie-on with a cord (vs. tieing each bundle separately). The ladies are hard at work.
Tom & Linda The whole class!
